The Centennial boys basketball team was an underdog at the Tarkanian Classic in Nevada.
The Huskies might have shed the darkhorse label for good this week after beating three nationally-ranked squads en route to winning the Platinum Division title. Senior point guard Paris Dawson led the way Saturday with 27 points, matching his career high, as Centennial took down Las Vegas Bishop Gorman 71-55 for the title at the Orleans Arena in Paradise.
Bishop Gorman was the No. 5-ranked team in the BallIsLife.com Fab 50 national rankings. Centennial beat No. 1 Philadelphia Neumann-Goretti 68-64 in Wednesday’s opening round. The Huskies (10-2) knocked off No. 19 Santa Ana Mater Dei 63-53 in the semifinals Friday.
